The Iowa Department of Justice – Office of the Attorney General represents the University of Iowa in court and advises the Iowa Board of Regents. The Office of the General Counsel works closely with the Attorney General’s office on university litigation. Their Special Litigation Division may also represent the university on cases involving personal injury or property damage.
Outside Legal Counsel
Occasionally, the University may retain outside legal counsel for matters that require specialized expertise. Various approvals are required to retain outside counsel. If your college or department requires the assistance of outside counsel, or if you have any questions about whether a matter is being handled by the Attorney General’s office, please contact our office.
